A small celebration of 2018 Canberran Moon Festival
we had yesterday evening at the Hellenic Club with participating schools, communities and volunteers.
It was lovely to meet again with these supportive individuals and groups so that we could pay tribute and gratitude to their voluntary commitment and cooperation prior and over the 3 days event on 21-23 September.
2018 CMF will not have been accomplished without these individuals and groups.
We look forward to having you involved at our next year festival and also welcoming more community engagement in all means in our future events. “One community, one world, one big family. Together we harvest better and more.”

A vivid and energetic Bollywood medley by the Canberra School of Bollywood Dancing (CSBD) who returned to 2018CMF after a series of vibrant and engaging medley and workshop, being 2017CMF's best stage moment.
The school has filled the stages of Australia’s capital with the glitz and glam of Bollywood we all know and love, for over a decade. Started in 2006, the school is now Canberra’s leading Bollywood School, with students ranging from 3 years of age to over 60 years of age. The schools main aim is to keep the community fit and healthy by providing dance classes to all age groups.

Multicultural performance session on Sat 22 Sep 2018 (cont.) Ode to the Pear Blossoms (Modern Peking Opera) by Australian Chinese Culture Exchange and Promotion Association Inc. (ACCEPA) and Red Cedar Dance Group. "Ode to the Pear Blossoms" is the theme song of the large-scale symphonic Peking opera "Imperial Concubine of Tang Dynasty". It is about the love story of the Imperial Concubine Yang and the Emperor. Yang was born with a natural beauty and good at singing and dancing. Her love with Emperor was forced to break up when the kingdom was invaded by rebellion. In order to save the Emperor, Yang died and left the Emperor missing her in the rest of his life. This song is to express Yang’s love towards the Emperor when she saw the pear blossoms bloomed and faded.

Highlights of the prime performance session are the traditional cultural singing, dancing and plays by various cultural community groups.
Farewell My Concubine (Peking Opera) by ACT Chinese Australian Association (ACTCAA).
The play tells the story of Xiang Yu, the self-styled "Hegemon-King of Western Chu" who battled for the unification of China with Liu Bang, the eventual founder of the Han Dynasty.
In the play, Xiang Yu is surrounded by Liu Bang's forces and on the verge of total defeat, so he calls forth his horse and begs it to run away for the sake of its own safety. The horse refuses, against his wishes. He then calls for the company of his favourite concubine, Consort Yu (aka Yuji). Realizing the dire situation that has befallen them, she begs to die alongside her master, but he strongly refuses this wish. Afterwards, as he is distracted, Yu commits suicide with Xiang Yu's sword.
