  • Lyndhurst enjoys beautiful sunsets year-round overlooking the Hudson River, but bare winter trees afford us more visibility from the veranda. It's a view the original residents would not usually catch; this was simply their summer home.

It blows my mind to remember that time being 11 years old, my parents separated for the last time and I was about to start as a new kid again, at the 5th school (out of 12 😅) I attended. I didn’t understand why things were as hard as they were but I did know that giving up wasn’t even a thought. Being the oldest of three and witnessing my mom hustle the best she could for us, lit something up in me and I just wanted to contribute how ever I could to help my family. I use to sell Pokémon and Yu-Gi-oh cards to classmates. Shortly after, when the cards were banned from school I began working for an optometrist practice organizing files and covering the front desk during lunch break. I had no working papers but I also had no excuses, just determination. • This year Lyndhurst will open the holiday season with an Explore at Your Own Pace event November 23-25. For the only time during this season, visitors can walk through the decorated mansion without a guided tour. The thematic holiday decorations range from traditions to trends, including a classic Victorian display and a modern gravity-defying tree! See why Lyndhurst was voted one of the “Ten Best Historic Holiday Tours” by USA Today. Tickets at Lyndhurst.org/events

  • The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch that is in effect from 12:00 AM Saturday until 6:00 PM Sunday. A large winter storm will move into the area late Saturday evening and continue through early Sunday afternoon. Total snow accumulation is expected to be 3 – 6 inches. Snow will mix with rain and freezing rain on Sunday morning, which can cause a layer of ice from 1/10 to 1/4 inch thick. Temperatures will rapidly drop into the single digits and in some areas below zero with the wind chill Sunday night. This will cause a rapid freeze up of all untreated areas. The Monday morning commute will be extremely hazardous and slippery. As with most storms of this magnitude, the track and the changeover to rain, when and if it happens, will determine the snowfall amounts. If the changeover is delayed, snowfall amounts of up to 8 - 10 inches are possible, whereas if the changeover occurs faster, snowfall amounts of approximately 3 inches are more likely.  Winds will be 10-15 MPH with gusts up to 25 MPH. Heavy wet snow and ice may cause downed trees and power lines. Report power outages to PSE&G by calling 1-800-436-7734 or use the “Power Outages” feature through the Lyndhurst OEM phone app. DO NOT call the Lyndhurst Police Department or dial 9-1-1 to report a power outage and to ask when power will be restored. Your non-emergency call could block a life threatening emergency from being received. Residents should use this time to make any and all storm preparations. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS: Residents should always have working flashlights and charged cell phones in the event of a power outage. #winter #winterweather #winterstorm #preparedness #snow #nationalweatherservice #preparedness #emergencymanagement #snowemergency #readylyndhurst #lyndhurstnj #lyndhurst #publicworks

  • Mindfulness is the ability to be present, to rest in the here and now, fully engaged with whatever we’re doing in the moment. Easier said than done. Mindfulness takes practice and is a big part of our class and a component of the #barre3 January Challenge. If there’s anyone who can bring us to a mindful state, it’s this woman, Annie Siegel. She’s a B3LV client and teaches yoga and meditation at Abide Yoga on Larchmere. She’s pictured here during a recent visit to the Oregon Coast and will be with us in studio each Sunday through Feb. 3 to lead a guided meditation after class. Join us: Sunday, January 20 after 10:00a Sunday, January 27 after 8:45a Sunday, February 3 after 10:00a
