I thought consuming fat would make me GAIN fat.🙍🏻‍♀️⁣ ⁣ So I restricted it. I also restricted all the carbs. You can probably guess how sad my chipotle bowls used to look…Chicken. Lettuce. Maybe a little pico.😢⁣ ⁣ I wasn’t satisfied. So when it came time to have one of my weekly cheat meals, where I allowed myself the opportunity to eat whatever I wanted…YA GIRL WENT BIZzzURK! 🙃🙃🙃 ⁣ ⁣ I would consume one meal with friends, then leave whatever social gathering I was at…make a dash for another FULL order at Sonic…then top it off with a box of Oreos and a pint of Ben & Jerry’s.😲⁣ ⁣ Yes, an entire BOX of Oreos. 😶⁣ ⁣ ❌Food literally consumed me.❌⁣ ⁣ My binge eating was out of control. It didn’t matter how many carbs/fats I restricted throughout the week…I never successfully lost weight.😔⁣ ⁣ Once I found the freedom to food, weightloss became easy. Not only losing it, but KEEPING it off.🙌🏼🙏🏼⁣ ⁣ Now.   • So...you wanna get your body right for Summer 2019?👙☀️🏖⁣ ⁣ 🛑Stop starting and quitting.✋🏼⁣ ⁣ With the new year just a few weeks away, you are probably telling yourself all the things you want to change about your body….while you indulge in all the holiday treats. Its okay girl, no one is judging you! 😉🍪⁣ ⁣ So you plan to make a change.🤩⁣ ⁣ January 1st rolls around...⁣ ⁣ You throw away all the snack foods, toss the left overs from Christmas dinner. You fill your fridge with the basics for the trending diet!🥗🍳🥦🍎⁣ ⁣ You tell yourself - “This year will be different. This year I will do better.”👏🏼⁣ ⁣ Yet, you hate the foods you’re eating.😝 You’re driving yourself into the ground trying to fit in hours of cardio 7 days a week.   • Guess what? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We’re going to talk about 💩today. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bet ya weren’t expecting to read that on your timeline, but it’s important and not really talked about often enough and as a health coach, I feel it is my duty (LOL) to bring certain topics to light. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What sparked this post is the fact that I’m pregnant right now. With that amazing title, comes some not so amazing side effects. I’m really lucky I didn’t experience any morning sickness at all throughout my pregnancy thus far, but I have experienced digestive woes that haven’t been the most fun. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Question: How much fiber do you eat each day? Do you even know where you stand exactly? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Optimal fiber levels are going to differ a little bit for everyone, but we recommend somewhere between 20-40g per day. Some people do better on a little more, some do better on a little less, but the more consistent you are with fiber, the more it will actually HELP with bloating. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I personally thrive on 35-45g daily, and let’s just say my food aversion to vegetables the first trimester (yes, ALL veggies) has not helped my fiber game. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now that I can stomach veggies again (praise the LORD), I’ve been upping my fiber and feeling MUCH better. Here are some of my favorite fiber-filled foods: -Black beans -Avocado -Raspberries -Blackberries -Dave’s Killer Bread -Figs -Artichokes ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’re not having normal, daily BMs and your fiber is lacking, slowly increase the amount you eat (key word= slowly!)   • ✅Pistol squat tips and progressions. —-> Swipe and save for future reference. Many of you have asked for pistol squat tips, so I finally put together a few progressions you can do to build up strength for a pistol squat. ✅ First you need to be able to do a deep chair squat (feet together) to assure range of motion and ankle mobility. ✅ Next you can use a chair or bench to add height so you don’t fall over when squatting. Start by slowly lowering yourself down with one leg out. Once your seated place both feet together to stand. Once you can do that with control, switch to keeping the leg out to stand. If you have something even lower you can practice on that until you no longer need a seat support. ✅ Next you can hold one leg out and slowly lower yourself down, then place your foot under you to stand back up. Keep practicing the lowering movement until you can do it without falling over. ✅ You can also lower yourself down in a chair squat position, stick one leg out, and then stand. This movement will be more challenging than the previous. ✅ And finally you can hold on to a *light* dumbbell to help counter balance your body weight. ‼️ Don’t forget that you can hang onto a counter or chair for extra stability through out all the movements. 💪 Those are just a few progressions you can try to help work up to that coveted pistol squat. BUT please remember! Pistol squats are not the definition of fitness. Some people may be super fit, but can’t do a pistol because of ankle mobility or flexibility. This is just for fun and to add a little variety to your workouts 😊

  • *This was from an email I sent this morning and I’ve had some requests to post it here, too. ❤️ # We say it like it's a message of hope. “Oh, you're so early postpartum still! Your body will continue to change so much." # Don't worry, you're going to lose the weight. Don't worry, your stomach is going to get flatter. Don't worry, your body will get smaller. Don't worry, your body won't look like this forever. Don't worry, you'll lose the fat. # We talk ourselves, and others, out of comfort with bigness. We give all the reasons for our body being big right now and reassure that it won't be big forever. Surely, it won't stay big. # But, what if it does stay big? What if it gets bigger? What if it doesn't change for 2, 3, or 10 years? # What if it stayed exactly like this? What would you do? How would you feel? # We talk about postpartum bodies as if they're just temporarily like this and that is supposed to make us feel better. Feel better about what? About them being bigger? Why does this matter? # Why does the quest for smallness consume us? Why is smallness so important? # If this is your body right now, this is your body right now. Why is there a constant focus on it not being like this? # In pregnancy we think about how in postpartum we'll finally be able to get to losing the weight. We'll be able to exercise more. Diet harder. We'll undo all that pregnancy did to our bodies. It's calming. # But, what if we don't? What if we fully allow ourselves to have and to be in this new version of our body? What could that be like? # I do not allow myself to consider fat loss as a goal. Read that again. # And, I see it as an act of resistance to not consider fat loss as a postpartum person. Products being pushed. Do this, but don’t do too much of that. How the hell are you supposed to know what to do? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You can listen to your Mom, you can listen to your neighbor Sally, or you can listen to the people in the DMs, but at the end of the day… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ the choice is yours. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So many people have already questioned if I should be lifting, if what I’m eating is ok, if I’m eating ENOUGH…others are telling us to not find out the gender, to make sure we do X test, or to make sure we buy Y product. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Again, at the end of the day, it’s our baby, our decision. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I know most of the time these suggestions come with love, but if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed with all of the options out there, I feel you mama.   • Excited to learn that on today's schedule was a little R&R 💗 Much needed after this week! Deep stretch and yoga are my jam🧘‍♂️ (and I wore my pjs so that's a plus) I'm getting my mind & breathing right for the next 6 weeks of transformation. It's going to be hard work but I'm so ready to push myself. Sometimes I'll be faced with a challenge or opportunity to try something new and immediately the old me would be like "uh no way girl" but then the today me steps in and says "we got this!!" (really my voice says "you just made it through nursing school, you can do any damn thing you put your mind to) Also, ppl will probably get annoyed with me comparing life through my nursing school experience but those are the ppl that haven't been through it. Everyone has their own version of "been through hell n back" so I'm not downplaying anyone's hard road! We are all strong and capable! Don't forget that. It truly was a wonderful run!! 🎄 Kevin @kevinbrown.rlr won first place overall in 16:22 🤯, our 9 year-old ran her PR of 37:49 and got second place in the under-10 division, our 6 year-old ran her mile PR in 12:21, and for the first time I got first in my age group with a 24:39! Brown family representing! Oh, and it was 80 degrees with lots of humidity. 🤪 #floridarunners 🎄 I love seeing the look of pride on my kids faces when they do these amazing things, and I love what running has already started to teach them...That hard work and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is a good thing. That surrounding yourself with individuals who inspire and uplift you is possible and necessary for a fulfilling life. That they can inspire others just by doing what they do, especially when it’s done with a smile on their faces. That they can overcome any obstacle if they just put the effort in. 💗 🎄 This is my favorite race of the year. As an alum of this high school, the current cross country coach, and a member of this wonderful running group, I felt completely surrounded by my people and so much love and support. It was so great to spend an awesome morning with family and friends and to see our current and alum runners and families.

  • Yesterday we shot footage for 67 exercise videos and hundreds of photos. # There are so many things to consider to make a day like this work. Randy, my husband, was on baby parent duty. Bringing Theo in to nurse and out to car nap throughout the day. My mom is in town this week and was able to hang with and entertain the 3-year old. # The best colleague turned friend, @rawfitnessyyc, demoed exercise technique for at least 300+ reps with a smile on her face the whole time. 😬She also needed to make childcare arrangements for her almost 2-year old for a full day. @filmmiker and his assistant shot the footage for 6 hours. # A great, big day. All of what we captured is going to be used for my brand new strength training program releasing in February 2019. Thank you to everyone who made the day flow smoothly! ❤️❤️

  • Have you ever felt like if you showed your true colors you wouldn’t be accepted? Wouldn’t be loved? Wouldn’t be enough? ✨ I feel like my entire life was structured around trying to please others until my mid-late twenties. I didn’t even know I was doing it. ✨ Back then I made choices based on how I thought others would perceive me, rather than choosing what was most aligned with who I WANTED to be. ✨ I think everyone goes through this. I mean come on, my name, Amanda, literally means “worthy of love,” yet I struggled with knowing and showing my worth. Like... what is that about??? ✨ All we want is to be seen for who we really are, yet we’re so scared that we’ll be rejected. So we stop being ourselves. Then we start to take on qualities we think we should have so that others will love us. ✨ But the truth is, real love is only there if you’re authentic enough to be you. Real lasting connection is only formed once you drop the bullshit fears and start peeling back the layers of your being. Once you can start to show up as your true self, that fear of not being enough fades. ✨ Because when you put all your energy into being you, the love you deserve, and the connections you yearn for, will all show up. And the fear will no longer be an issue. It may still visit once and a while, but it’ll leave extremely fast. Because when you’re unapologetically YOU, your confidence blooms.   • Comparison is the thief of joy. . I can remember wishing I were pretty like so and so, why can’t I be popular like her, why can’t my body look like that, why isn’t my hair more like hers.... . The list would go on and on. . I never looked at myself as pretty, smart, funny or enough. . Taking this journey to lose some weight has become so much more. . It’s helped me learn how to love the fact that I AM ME, not her, not you, not so and so. . We are all made different TO BE DIFFERENT momma! . You are beautiful, you are strong, you are smart and you are ENOUGH! . The next time you look in the mirror tell that girl looking back just how f*cking awesome she is 🤗 . Tag a friend you’d like to remind her of just how awesome she is too ♥️

It’s been an adventure navigating it all, and the biggest thing to get used to was not being with her 100% of the time. Splitting her time with another human and household was so excruciating in the beginning of all this. Now I utilize my time without her for self care, art projects, and work.   • Even before the boys were born, Hugh and I had promised each other that we would never pressure our kids to do something just because we loved it. . Hugh, being a huge hockey fan was amazing with this. He never pressured the boys or told them they would play hockey someday. . But, for the past 2 years, Callum has been asking to play. With regular hockey being a huge time commitment and since he has never played before, as a family, we agreed that right now, outdoor hockey or 'fun hockey' would be a good fit. . So, today, Callum enjoyed his first practice. He had a blast and worked hard. He even scored his first goal! . Here's to a great season!

Happy Saturday!⠀ ⠀ I woke up with 2 choices and here it goes. ⠀ ⠀ 1- don’t do my workout and get up and getting ready to head out to my sons baseball game and look decent 😂😜. ⠀ ⠀ 2-get my workout in cuz I was only doing the 10 min sample one and get in my readying for 10 mins and not care what I look like and head out to my sons baseball game! ⠀ ⠀ ❗️❗️ well I decided to workout and so if you see me today and I’m not changed out of my workout clothes “ so be it”.   • Never in a million years did I think #5monthspostpartum I would feel this comfortable and confident in my own skin, let alone posting a shirtless picture on social media🙈 . Am I wearing high waisted leggings that are containing my mommy tummy? Yes. . Am I ashamed or embarrassed of that? HELL NO!! . This body was this sweet boy’s home for 9 months, it has gained 37lbs, and lost that 37lbs and then some, but that doesn’t mean I’m back to where I was pre-pregnancy and that is OKAY!! . We may be holding onto a little extra on the tummy, but shrinking in other places I never thought possible!! Hello strong legs🦵🏻and strong mom arms💪🏻😍 for once I am EXCITED to CONFIDENTLY ROCK shorts and tank tops on vacation🙌🏻🔥🔥 . The female body is absolutely INCREDIBLE💙

My fave part after I was tired to video this haha. . 4 rounds of 40 sec WORK, 10 sec REST (about 15min) . 1. Combo of jump jack to plank jack to explosive climbers, back to jump jack 2. Kneeling Band Front raise to back lat pull ( holy sh*t tiring, make sure you have tension) 3. Combo 3 pike pushup to squat 3 punches (I was too tired for my head to touch the floor, video recorded after the workout and 8 laps of swimming) 4. Combo kneeling band row to close grip pushup, chest to the ground. 5. REPEAT . Alright go try this out and then def do Part 2, it’s only 5 min. It’s def a great quick cardio. .   • You’re not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but you may be somebody’s whisky! 🥃 When I first moves to our little city, I had a super hard time fitting in and making friends. I had a security blanket of friends where we used to live, and the idea of throwing myself out into a new environment felt too raw. Growing up, I never thought of myself as an insecure person. I had a security blanket of a big family with lots of siblings to help make me feel comfortable in most situations. Then in college, I had a security blanket of a big group of friends that sort of fell in my lap without a lot of effort. Then, moving to a new place as a new wife and a new mom threw me for a loop! There was no security blanket. I searched for one, and unfortunately, it came in the form of food and alcohol. I became uncomfortable in my own skin; I barely recognized myself in pictures; I couldn’t fit into any of my clothes; I had no desire to go to any social functions. I was on a downward spiral of insecurity and self-doubt. I’m not sure exactly when it happened, but I eventually began to learn that I needed to stop trying to fit in. Life is all about choices. I can choose to make changes in my life to make ME happy, or I can choose to wallow in the discomfort. I can choose to be strong, or I can wallow in my weakness. I can choose to have fun, or I can wallow in self-pity. We are all unique, and created in the image of an Omni-potent Creator. Trust the fact that YOU ARE ENOUGH!   • “Why do you care so much about working out?” . “Why do you spend time working out when you have three kids?” . “How do you get excited and motivated to workout so often?” . Actual questions I’ve been asked this year since starting… and actually continuing my health journey. I started many programs before the #fasterwaytofatloss and never continued, so I can understand why some may have been shocked that I continued past 4 weeks. I was and am kind of shocked myself. . So why did I end up loving it and why do I make sure I get workouts in even almost a year later??? Working out makes me feel more like ME. Working out makes me strong and gives me energy. It helps me fight anxiety and helps me feel ready to take on the world. . Yes I’m a busy mama. And so are you. Motherhood is busy and time consuming. . Making time for a workout most days of the week helps me feel more ready to tackle my days with my crazy kiddos. Working out makes me stronger and gives me energy to not just keep up with them and keep my head above water, but to run WITH them and thrive. . Sometimes that workout is at the gym and sometimes its at home, sometimes I don’t feel like it, but either way, it gets done! Och när man får höra att barnen har lättare att varva ner efter att ha yogat med mig 😭❤️ Och efteråt med lussebullar och mandariner i magen passade jag på att träna innan vi åkte hem. If they are not, this is simply practice for the one who is.” - This is not only true in terms of relationships but it has become something that permeates through my entire life. - Regardless of what it is; a shirt, a car, your significant other, a friendship, a training program or a meal. Treat it with respect and love as if it were “the one” if not because it is then because you could use the practice. - For example – - I drive a Honda Civic. To me this is the best car in the world and you couldn’t convince me otherwise. I treat it like it is the only car I will ever have keeping it clean, making sure it stays in good shape, and this will likely make it perform better and last longer for me. - For you this might be the training program you are half committed to, the diet you are on and off, or the friendship you take for granted. - Make a pledge today to treat them like “the one.” - This mindset has increased my happiness and contentment in so many ways. - What do you think you could start treating like “the one” in your life that you maybe haven’t?
