  • Well... running on a Saturday afternoon was not exactly my plan for a fun run. But it was then or never. I was tired, it was hot, and that is perfect combination for a tough run. Honestly, this week was mentally hard to get every single one of my runs done. But hey, at least today I earned a badge of my fastest 10K. That’s how bad I wanted to get it over with😂 6.22 miles in total and now I’m off to rest and enjoy the rest of my weekend🏃🏻‍♀️

  • I've been walking 30 minutes a day instead of 20 since my oncologist told me to do at least 30 min. of aerobic exercise daily. Exercise will decrease the side effects of cancer treatment & help with recovery.   • Well... running on a Saturday afternoon was not exactly my plan for a fun run. But it was then or never. I was tired, it was hot, and that is perfect combination for a tough run.   • 🏃🏼‍♀️Running a half marathon is a very lonely experience. It's just you and the road. You, alone, have to push yourself to keep moving forward. No one can understand the exact mental and physical rollercoaster you are going through, even if they have been through it themselves. 💔Going through a miscarriage feels pretty much the exact same way … except that no one talks about it. ✨But through both experiences you learn similar things. You learn how much stronger you can be in the face of adversity. You learn how many people are rooting you on. You learn how to be patient and trust that, eventually, the end will present itself. You learn that you just have to tell yourself “You CAN do this” one more time than you say “You can’t”. You learn how glorious the celebration at the finish line can be. 🌈That is the true inspiration and my goal to live healthy, live foolish, and live outside of my comfort zone - an idea that crossed my mind as I crossed the finish lane in the parking lot of Epcot, but seems even more important now that we can celebrate our soon-to-arrive rainbow baby. ☕️ Powered by an excess of decaf coffee and La Croix, a daily chocolate habit, two rambunctious dogs, a stack of personal development books, an unwaveringly supportive family, and a love of all things Disney, I invite you to follow along in my blister, self-doubt, and sore-muscle filled journey to go from couch to Walt Disney World Dopey Challenge.

  • In the past, I was fortunate enough to get by with exercise and only minimal changes to my diet. Of course, I’d cut back but I’d still indulge on the things I enjoyed. I never fully committed to life style changes which is probably why my weight has always been a roller coaster. . . I’ll admit I started my journey this time with much the same attitude. Except, my body wasn’t willing to come along for the ride. . . With a body that is out of commission, I’ve been feeling like I’m at an impasse. Today, I saw this: “Just because it is there, doesn’t mean it is in your way.” What a wake up call. . . This is it. It’s my opportunity to tackle the other side of my health. My bad diet continually drags me backwards. Now, it is front and center. I HAVE to focus on fixing it because, frankly, what other option do I have. . . When a road block interferes with your route, look for opportunities or adventures you may have missed otherwise. . .   • 5 slow + steady miles to get the endorphins flowing today. 🏃🏼‍♀️ yes, i do run with my hair down under my beanie + yes, it does become a snarly mess.🦁 ⠀⠀ thank you sooooo much for all the support on my last post! i was overwhelmed (in the best possible way) with people both checking in +/or letting me know how deeply that message resonated with them. 💗 ⠀⠀ if you didn’t see it or it was tl;dr, i’ll sum it up for you: self care practices without mindfulness may actually be doing you more harm than good. 😳 ⠀⠀ it’s trendy to call them “rituals” but without the intention that these thoughts or actions are going to connect you with your higher/best self, you’re simply going through the motions. 📋 ⠀⠀ yes, that epsom salt bath may relax your muscles 🛀 + that meditation may have forced you to disconnect for 10 minutes 🧘🏼‍♀️ which are both great outcomes, but these surface level benefits are not going to give you everything you deserve without giving them your full presence + undivided attention. ✨ ⠀⠀ no matter what you do (or don’t do) this weekend, i hope you it fills your cup + asks if you want a refill. ☕️🌟 ⠀⠀ #mnrunner #werunsocial #abundancemindset #positivity #selfcare #optoutside #runningyogi #tighthipsopenheart

  • 20 miles, 10 on the trails, with deer sightings, mud puddles, and fuzzy silver sunlight. . There’s such a mystique around the 20 miler. Aerobically, there’s no advantage to runs longer than three hours. But there are other physiological and mental benefits. I’ve run this distance countless times, but always in service to a marathon. When you’re done you can think, “Well it’s just a 10K after this.” (Which is no small thing, to be honest.) But today, it was sobering to realize that on race day, I’ll still have 10 miles to go... and then another mile on top of that just to be fancy 😱 And in August, after 20 I won’t even be half done. Can she do it? We will find out the answer to part 1 in 69 days.

In this episode we talk with cancer survivor and heart transplant thriver Derek Fitzgerald, of the Recycled Man Foundation and the Tin Men Endurance Racing. Fitzgerald was first diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2003. The chemotherapy he received saved his life, but severely damaged his heart and ultimately led to a heart transplant that he received on January 3, 2011. Along the way, Derek overcame severe weight gain and loss, a gall bladder removal, heart failure, diabetes, and twice cheated death. . The episode opens up with Derek Fitzgerald telling his story and then moves towards questions about how Derek Fitzgerald thrived despite the dire situation. We talk about the methods Fitzgerald incorporated into his life while adapting to life with a cancer diagnosis, then heart failure with an eventual heart transplant, and now, currently, thriving as a high performing Ironman athlete running a successful non-profit organization. Fitzgerald talks about building a life worth living and he teaches you how to build that life. He also talks about developing a healthy life.
