This stunning aerial of Lake Hellier off the coast of Esperance in Western Australia was captured by photographer Steve Fraser @stevefraserphotography. “The beautiful turquoise waters of the Southern Ocean surround the island and contrast with the bright pink lake,” says Steve.
“Let’s answer the obvious questions–no it’s not photoshopped and yes it’s real. Even looking at these colours up close, it was hard to believe nature’s pallet is so rich. The vibrant colour is permanent, and is considered to be due to the presence of the organism Dunaliella salina. Apparently, the colour does not alter when the water is collected in a container. Nature has an incredible way of producing colours that are stunning to look at and, at times, it’s hard to believe they are natural. The crazy pink of Lake Hillier is some of nature’s work at its very finest.”
