  • Last night I told @lvrunningvegan that my run today would probably be character building. I was not wrong 😂 This is probably the toughest long run I’ve ever done. It had it all! I ran on snow and ice, had brief moments of sunshine, elevation gain, and it poured on me until mile 15. I was frozen by mile 10 and very thankful for the sun at mile 15 to unthaw me a little. The first half of my run looked like the terrain in this pic. The second half was better thank heavens. I found some clearer sidewalks that I could zig zag through the ice and slush and pick up some speed. There were parts that I had to walk through though because the slush was at least 6 inches high. During one of the places where I had to walk I had an 🙄🙄moment. I was texting my husband to tell him I changing my course and a guy was walking towards me. He asked “are you single?” I gave him my “what?” look because at first I thought he asked me if I had any singles $ 😂 So he asks again “are you single? Because you sure are pretty.” My first thought was he must be far sighted because I was a dripping wet mess. He then stopped I. Ron of me and appeared to want to chat longer so I gave him my WTF 🤨 look and jumped into the street and started running. I tell my husband stories like this all the time when I come back from runs and I’m not sure how much he believes me because I tell him some crazy stuff 🤪 My Yaaay🎉 moment of this run was at mile 14 when I saw I had some clear sidewalk for a ways and ran at a 9:30 pace for just over a mile until the sidewalks got yucky again. It was a little confidence booster knowing I could keep that pace after 14 miles. I am not a fast marathoner at all (about 4:40) and I’m not comfortable with the distance yet to know just how fast I can push it and still have gas in the tank to finish strong. Right now my relationship with marathons is that I just want to run at a comfortable pace and have as much fun as I can for 26.2 miles and I don’t see anything wrong with that right now 😁 #runhappy #winterwarrior #onmywayla

I fought with me today. The legs were heavy ... but the head was clear, and even if the weather was fine, I was also ready to run😊 That was also my luck, I managed the 10k with an average HF of 167 in 6:54 min / km😬 I had a pair of shorts at home ... and then thought: nooooo, that's going to be too cold ... I should leave it on😂🤪

  • I’m super grateful to my friend and neighbour Martin who joined me for today’s long run. We set out with no particular route in mind and a vague idea of doing about 28KM but it turned out to be one of those days that all runners occasionally have where time and distance pass quickly and you can run and run and run — I call them Forrest Gump days. And so it was that we discovered new paths and trails and 28KM turned into 32.5KM; two weeks earlier than scheduled on my plan but, heck, I was in the zone and I was going to bank it. A yoga session afterwards was the perfect way to unwind. . Week 11 therefore draws to a close with a total distance of 64.1KM and an Instagram post from the organisers of the Manchester Marathon reminding us that the big event is just 50 days away... . What’s everyone else been up to?

  • 💫LONG RUN💫 I made a snap decision to do my long run tonight, instead of waiting until tomorrow. My legs were ready, so I went from vauxhall down the south bank to tower bridge, and then ran to Twickenham to complete 18 miles. Glad I managed it and did a decent average pace (5:20/km) but as with every long run I do, I either learn something new or am reminded of the importance of certain things. This time was no exception: 1). Reminder of the peril that is starting too fast - I maintained great pace to 14-15 miles, and then started to blow up. By 16 I was struggling. By 17.5, my chin was attached to my chest. It’s good that I finished, but I had nothing at all left st the end. I have to do my long runs easier than that and today I got over excited! 2). The importance to me of my @guenergylabs salted caramel gels. I found out before my run that I’d run out of them. I suffer badly with cramp issues without the extra salt in them and my legs turned to lead far too early using the other gels I have. 3). The importance of my @balega_international V-tech Enduro socks. For the first time since mid-2018 I ran without them today, and what do you know, I’ve blistered. They are so good, since buying them I haven’t even thought or worried about my feet as they are always fine. 4). Just how good my @asicseurope @asicsfrontrunner gel nimbus 20’s are; I think I might need a new pair though as these have had a hammering and I’m beginning to notice the pavement in my striking. Time for the 21’s...? 5). How much I love running. The good runs, the bad runs, the really ugly runs. The running solo and with friends. The easy runs, the tempo and track. It’s all awesome! Best of luck to everyone racing tomorrow, and have a great weekend. FYI none of this sponsored, just my kit and experience! 🏃🏻‍♂️💪🏻😁✅ . . . . . #marathoner #running #irun #runningcommunity #irunthisbody #runnersofinstagram #instarunner #instarunners #instarunning #marathontraining #keepshowingup #igrunners #ihavearunnersbody #keeprunning #lifeofarunner #runstagram #runnersbody #runspiration #instagramrunning #runnerlife #runmotivation #runnersofinsta #londonmarathon2019 #chicagomarathon2019

  • LAST RUN OF MY SECOND TRIMESTER 😁 My Saturday long runs may not look the same or as long but I still really enjoy working for them each week ♥️ Today unfortunately I was on the treadmill (recycled photo since it was pouring rain) but I tried to keep an open mind and make the best of it! 3 miles, bathroom stop, 6 miles for a total of 9.25 miles 🙌 My original plan was to work in some intervals or progression run but my body just felt like going slow today so 9:30 pace for the entire 9 miles it was 🤷🏻‍♀️🤰🏻 To me the distance is more important to me than pace and I want to feel as good as I can for those miles so I will gladly slow down 🙌 I also feel quicker outside than on the treadmill these days but that’s ok - I got it done! 💪🏻 What was/is your long run this week? . . #fitpregnancy #27weeks #womensrunningcommunity #inspiringwomenrunners #pregnancyrunning #runningfortwo #runhappy #dreambig #lovetorun #igrunners #pregnant #runstrong

  • 30mins on the treadmill. There are a lot of stressful things going on in my life at the moment and unfortunately it has messed with my appetite. I had to stop running today because my tank was on empty and I will feeling sick and shaking. Not the ideal lead up to a 70.3 triathlon! Anyone have any high carb tips for me? Medjool dates, rice cakes & banana's will be on the plan this week!

  • I’ve been battling mentally these last few weeks, most prominently during my long runs which are often accompanied by lots of walking breaks. This has severely impacted not just my consistency, but my morale. I’ve questioned myself so much, how can I possibly run a marathon if I can’t even get through a 15 mile run? So today it wasn’t about tackling the hills or hitting a certain pace, it was simply to run at a steady pace for 14 miles and to not stop, to build endurance. The first 3 miles were harder than normal, I felt shaky and weak so I downed my mile 6 fuel and told myself to pull it together and get to it. And I did. For 14 miles. The last 2 felt impossible, the last 0.5 felt even more impossible, but I won the battle in my head. I also finally figured out the solution to running in the rain and wet feet, turns out it doesn’t bother me if they get wet, only cold. So foot warmers stuck to the tops of my toes it is. #marathontraining #c25kgraduate #running #runner #runnersofinstagram #igrunners #instarunners #runningmotivation #saturdaymotivation #saturdayrun #thisgirlcan #longrun

  • Before I went out for my six easy today, @mauryland_ made sure to point out that my outfit was ridiculous and nothing matched. Hello? My #procompression socks clearly have yellow on them! Rich stuff coming from someone who wears almost all black. Anyway, my ankle isn't perfect. Fine. I've taken some ibuprofen and am icing it as I type this. Tomorrow is the last sixteen miler before #rnrdc, which is so hard to believe! This Hanson's plan has put my body and my schedule to the test. It's hard for me to believe that the race is three weeks away, and I'll be tapering very soon! What?! In fact, I'll probably be tapering harder than the #hansonsonsmarathonmethod calls for; I've been fighting off injuries this whole training cycle, and it's not going to hurt to rest a little more to make sure I'm in the best place possible on race day. Also, #nuunlove. As one does.

  • Last week was a tough one. I worked 13+ hour days most of the week, but I somehow still managed to get all my runs in. • My recovery, according to my @whoop was complete crap most of the week and my strain certainly didn’t match up with what my body was probably wanting - aka rest. (swipe ⬅️) • But I didn’t feel like I was dragging on my runs so I didn’t feel the need to skip them. • What I DID skip this week is strength. I tried, but only got through one set before I knew I was just too tired. So, sometimes you have to adjust - and I was just happy to get all the running in! • TODAY’S run report: I (still) suck at pacing. 😑 • The workout today was [email protected]:05, [email protected]:55, and [email protected]:49. I hit all of the, but only after fluctuating between paces that ranged from 6:15 to 7:20 🤦🏼‍♀️ • Which, if any other runners know, is the best way to totally over exert yourself. 👎 • I was exhausted after that first 3, and had to take some extra stoppage time to bring the HR down (you gotta do what you gotta do!) but the second two weren’t terrible - and managed to feel good for the last mile at 6:40. • I’m feeling the progress, but MAN I need to learn how actually run a consistent pace 🤪 on the plus side, I dressed appropriately for the weather for once. 👌 • • • • #womensrunningcommunity #igrunners #instarunner #runstagram #runnersofig #marathontraining #womensrunning #strongnotskinny #runner #running #boston2019 #marathoner #runningmotivation

  • My longest treadmill run ever, and guess what, I survived. . Moment of honesty, I drove to the trail this morning. And it still looked snowy and slushy in places, and it was barely over 30 degrees, and it was pouring down rain, and all the excuses were there, and in a moment of weakness, I turned around and drove home. But I knew if I didn’t do it this morning, there was no other time during this busy weekend it was going to happen. So out in the garage on the treadmill I went. . I made some modifications to my training plan, to make it tolerable on the treadmill. The plan called for a 14 mile long run with the last 5 at goal half marathon pace, I decided on a 20 minute easy warm up, then alternating 3 minutes at goal pace, 2 minutes easy, to a total of 12 miles, then cool down to 14 total miles. And I finished the entire run. And I felt strong. And I am so glad I got it done. Now it’s time for the first round of birthday celebrations, cannot believe my daughter is about to turn 3! 🎉 . 14 miles | 2:06:34 | 9:02 average

  • O.M.G Amazing how great this workout felt!! I was tired 💤 and I was moody 👿all morning for lack of sleep and single parenting two hyper children! All I wanted to do was skip this speed work and take a nap. . My legs were sore all day yesterday and this morning and I was thinking of every excuse!! . Training plan called for 8x 1200 @8:24 with 1 min rest. . I can NOT believe how smooooth this felt. I kept waiting to feel a burn but only started feeling my levels drop slightly by rep 6 ....but at that point I was already nearing the end!! 🎯 bullseye I nailed these paces and was beyond shocked how 10 miles just flew by.. 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️ . With joy like this you have to play and this called for little post workout shenanigan selfies!! Jumping for Joy!! . #speedwork #halfmarathontraining #nikerunclub #run #motherrunner #runhappy

  • Had an amazing time at the Holiday Lake 50k today! Here’s a quick recap of how it unfolded: . Just about everything on this one. Felt great through 14 miles and had a couple minutes lead, then took a wrong turn and ended up running about 1.5 miles extra. Tried to stay calm, continued to control my effort till the half way point, then hammered hard over the next 5 miles to regain contact with the leaders who had put a gap on my me during my wrong turn. . That’s when things got interesting. Due to the rapidly dropping temperature and increasing heavy rains and sleet, I started developing feelings and signs of hypothermia with about 8-10 miles left. Did the best I could with how I was feeling, but one of the guys I passed earlier caught me at the last aid station. Thankfully, Haleigh was there and gave me gloves and a light jacket. It was enough to help me give one final push over the last 4 miles and regain the lead with about 2 miles left; then manage to hold on for the win. After crossing the finish line, I proceeded immediately to the heat inside and shivered for the next half an hour haha. . Overall, super happy with my effort and how I handled everything. Thankful for Haleigh and the incredible job she did crewing me. And blessed to have the opportunity to race with such great guys and gals. It was a pleasure battling with two awesome dudes, Nick and Frank. Thank you Mr. Horton and all the volunteers for sticking out the weather and putting on an awesome race today. It was great meeting everyone and really was a blast! #run4j

  • Not too long ago, thanks to another newsletter I read, I was introduced to the work of a writer named James Clear (@james_clear), who recently released the book, “Atomic Habits.” Some of you guys may already be familiar with him — he appears regularly on the big network TV morning shows, and writes often for magazines. To be honest, I’d never heard of him before this weekend. But once I took a deep dive in, what Clear had to say intrigued me — especially about the possibilities for getting better as a runner. Recently, I went for a 3 1/2-mile run at one of my favorite places in Atlanta to go running, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Its long, loping trails are shaded by plentiful tree cover, and thanks to some recent rain the swollen river was lapping up onto the banks. I felt really strong, thanks in part to some fresh legs — I hadn’t run since the previous weekend — and 50-degree temperatures outside. But when I was done, I started thinking to myself that I’d love to feel as strong at the end of 13.1 miles (or longer) as I did today at the end of 3 1/2. (That’s largely because — and I’m sure you know what this is like — I’m often dragging myself across the finish line, especially for longer races.) After some noodling on exactly what changes to my running I need to make — should I add another day of training/running? Or, should I add an additional mile onto each day I run? — I stumbled across what Clear had to say. Essentially, it was this: in our minds, we think it’s the big decision or the big change in direction that makes the difference. That an abrupt and sudden shift, like taking up running after a sedentary life or going vegan, cold turkey, after years of eating red meat, are what’s called for. Clear says the opposite — that those kinds of strategies prime us for failure, and that instead we should look to get one percent better every day.
