  • The Tomb of Bairam Khan(or Behram) lies inconspicuous in the green belt near the more famous and visited Rani Ki Vav. . Bairam Khan was a famous Persian noble during the rule of the Mughal Empire. A commander in Chief in the Mughal Army and served Emperors Babur, Humayun and Akbar. He joined the Mughal Army at the age of 16 during Babur's reign and slowly became an active participant in the Mughal conquests of India. In fact his roots were linked to the Mughal family. . It was probably because of his role that even after the defeat at the hands of Sher Shah Suri and driven into exile, Humayun returned to reconquer Hindustan after the death of his arch rival Suri and reestablish Mughal supremacy. . Soon after the accidental death of Humayun, Khan was made guardian, advisor, teacher to the young Emperor Akbar. He was instrumental in the Mughal victories most notably in the second battle of Panipat against the Hindu chief of Suri dynasty - Hemu. . As Khan was Shia Muslim, he was disliked by the Sunni Turkic nobles who were in majority during Akbar's reign. So things went adrift and Akbar asked Khan to either retire or go on a pilgrimage to Mecca. Khan chose the latter and was killed on his pilgrimage trip at Patan. His murderer was Haji Khan Mewati of Alwar who was a General in the army of Hemu and whose father was killed by Khan in the Panipat battle. He had been staying in Patan after Akbar's army had taken control of Alwar. It was Mewati's opportunity to avenge his father's and Hemu's death after a Lohani Pashtun had identified Bairam Khan at Sahastralinga Lake, Patan. Khan's wife married Akbar(in fact she was Akbar's cousin) and Khan's son became one of the navratnas or nine gems in the Mughal rule. His son Abdul Rahim Khan-e-Khana Tomb is situated in Nizamuddin area of #Delhi . . . #Gujarat #India #ig_india #india_clicks #worlderlust #_soi #Patan #_indiasb #shutter_bugs #mysimpleclick #inspiredtraveller #natgeoindia #travellushes #indiatravelgram #theindianroute #indianphotography #ohmyindia #oneplus3t #inspiroindia #iiframe #streetphotographyindia #gujarattourism @allindiaphotography_ #lonelyplanetindia #_woi #indiapictures #CNTGiveItAShot #_igg
