When you can’t run, you volunteer! @annatheappleblog and I helped out at Reading @parkrunuk this morning, and I was given the *very* important job of handing tokens to the person handing out tokens... at least I couldn’t mess it up!

FEMALE TEAM RECORDS! After what's now been just over 2 years coaching and trying to make a variety of different people's running lives easier and ultimately faster- we thought we'd draw up a little record list of some of the quickest (..so far!) 💯
There have been some amazing performances from a huge number of our runners, and we are so proud of all their accomplishments. 🏃🏼♀️💨 It's not all about records and being the best, some of our proudest moments have come from those who have never ran a 5k before, or had fallen out of love with running and needed that extra spark again! ✔ As the saying goes "The real purpose of running isn't to win a race, but to test the limits of the human heart.." ❤

5 years ago I created this account as a cry for help during my battle with Anorexia and Depression. I used it as my diary, hoping to gain some support to get better.
Somewhere amongst those 5 years I became the supporter, sharing everything in the hope that women wouldn’t feel alone, and would feel empowered to accept and be kinder to their bodies.💛 Some amazing things have come of the endless hours I’ve put into this account, but I never thought I’d see my face in the window of a shop I’ve loved since I was a little girl. 🙋🏽♂️Time for a Handstand 🤸🏾♂️ I definitely needed to take a couple days off to allow my body to catch up.. I haven’t felt like that in a long time. I guess not every new year starts off with a bang. So glad to be back out doing something I love though (possibly addicted too😂) Believe it or not rest days 🛏 will make you stronger! Seriously.
🔹 1. Your muscles can bounce back.
When you run (or do any exercise), you create microscopic 🔍 tears in your muscle fibers. It will rebuild your muscles stronger, in preparation for the upcoming session. The only way to achieve this is to actually take some time off and keep it lite. As a guideline allow 36-48 hours for proper replenishment🧖🏽♂️. This is of course dependent on the intensity of your workouts. Without rest your body will continue to breakdown 🧟♂️ and all the hard work you put in will go to the trash! 🔹 2. Your brain has time to chill.
Yes, we all know running or any kind of intense training is a form of stress relief. But every time we get after it, it increases the levels of the stress hormone cortisol in your body. Why?
That cortisol bump can cause mood issues🤪😤😥, irritability, sleep problems, and other health issues if stress levels are chronically high. So schedule rest days regularly to avoid overtraining and stay balanced. Someone once said to me: 🎯“Keep your easy days easy and your hard days HARDER.” 🔹 3. You can spend more time with family and friends.
While taking a rest day has many physical benefits, it also has several mental ones💆🏽♂️. Specifically, it grants you valuable time to spend with the family and friends you sometimes ditch to get your mileage in 😂.. You know who you are!! And the best of all you can catch up on your other favorite past times: like sex💃🏽🕺🏽, a good 📖 , shooting some 🔫, watching Disney 🎥 with your kid, swimming 🏊 or trying a completely new activity like 🐐 Yoga..whatever floats your 🚣♀️.. My big sister @pzy001 completed her 50th volunteering at Broken Hill. This is an incredible effort by anyone but let alone considering broken hill has only had 60 events!! Her whole family now get involved in volunteering, and she was the one that inspired me to get involved in my local parkrun too.
My 21 runs (including 1 at Broken Hill) and 6 volunteers are because of her convincing me to give it a go!! 👶 Buggy Running + Pacing ⏰.
It’s great to get to @parkrunuk and bash out a quick time, aim for PBs and see how all the hard training is working out. What’s better is volunteering, helping others achieve their goals and sharing those moments with them. What’s EVEN better is being able to take the little one out with you, in the running buggy, especially when the little one cheers those you are pacing!
Im so fortunate that i get to share my running and parkrun family with my little one, and she lives getting out in the buggy. Sometimes it’s shaking cowbells, other times it’s the lure of cake after but it’s always good fun and when she shouts “Go Faster Daddy!”, it 100% gives me a kick up the 🍑.
She is my motivation, my reason to push harder and my biggest fan (I hope 😂).

Today I walked a different path and I am so glad I did as I got to look at so many pretty houses that I didn’t even know where in our area. The roads were also very quiet and there really is something so peaceful in that 🤗
Mini goal for myself this week is to track 33km to bring myself back up on target to reach 1000km by the end of the year. 18km down - 15km to go!
We get asked all the time “what makes your school shoes better than the cheaper ones”
No steel shank for support for growing feet. The last is made of cardboard which will degrade quicker than other materials – especially if the shoe gets wet. These shoes are normally very heavy. The sock liner is synthetic so won't breathe. Flimsy heel counter which isn't very sturdy, which means it's less likely to hold the heel steady. The soles are 'blown out' (have air pockets), which means the shoes will wear out more quickly. Too flexible and soft all over

I’m attempting to focus on two quality hard running sessions a week eg one long run and one temp/interval/hill session and ensure the rest of my mileage is fairly easy. I managed an easy four miler this morning taking in the rural Lincolnshire landscape.

When you go to a yoga class for the first time in over a decade and your muscles feel like they've worked harder than they did at your last 10k race 🙈 .
@run_sal_run and I took ourselves off to a local class in town and it felt great. Very hard at times and there were more than a few wobbles where the wall and I became firm friends, but I think it's safe to say we'll be going back. If nothing else, it'll just be to steal the studio's dog! Gail was super supportive and very calming, @wonderfulyouyoga you've got two new regulars!

Along with trying to improve my old-man mobility 👴 I also want to do more small trips this year. "Micro-adventures" as the cool kids call them.
Started off strong with 2 days in the North Downs for Clara's birthday! Easy train from London to Guildford, then we ran almost 20 miles to Dorking where we'd booked a cosy Airbnb.
I spent the night before going ultra-minimal with my packing... Multifunctional clothing, lots of merino wool, it was beautiful. I then proceeded to ruin it all by packing 2 litres of water and my drone. 😐
The pack was heavy but it was cool having everything with you for a point-to-point trip... made it more of an adventure. Dense forest, sand, streams, stepping stones and sunsets. The North Downs Way is pretty damn nice.
We finished the run under pink skies with headtorches on, and were welcomed at our Airbnb with a log fire... and a coffee machine 😏☕!
10/10, would recommend 👌
