#ad I am so excited to run my first race of 2019 on Saturday morning! I'm signed up for the @Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k/5k in Charlotte. My biggest running goal for this year is to get back to running regularly after I slowed down in the third trimester of my pregnancy and after Finn's birth. I'm keeping it super attainable with a goal to run 2-3 times a week and to race whenever I can. A race with hot chocolate at the post-race party sounds like the PERFECT first race of the year for me! I'll take hot chocolate over beer any day at 9 a.m. #willrunforchocolate 😉
There are @Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k/5k events all over the country, so check to see if there's one coming up near you! And I'd love to hear if any of my local followers are running this weekend! It's going to be a great race and we should all meet up at the @allstate tent for a group photo after!

Last run before Race Day. Nothing left to it but to do it. 🏃♂️👍 Warm our there and a little rain along the way but a good way to wrap up training. Even saw 3 deer near the elementary school. 🦌 Good times.
Three weeks ago Paula Dubovoy (@eat_lift_bemarried) was planning for a robust 2019. Then, in a freak accident, she fully ruptured her achilles tendon. Instead of waiting until her comeback is complete, Paula has agreed to document her journey in real-time as she faces months is PT, challenges, and potential hurdles. She is a fitness professional who runs the three fitness centers at the LinkedIn headquarter, a former college track athlete, and a fixture in her community athletic scene.

Got one these things lying around your house collecting dust? Well, it’s time to dust it off and get to work. 💪😁👍After you’ve done it, tag me in your post so I can see or use the hashtag #reedswellnessandfitnesstraining
I’m supplying you with 5 movements with a couple of modifications if need be.
I want you to aim for 3-4 sets of 8-10 repetitions (each side). Take a 1-2 minute break in between as necessary.
Game time - let’s go! Swipe Left to see video demonstrations of each movement and modification.
1️⃣Pistol Squat: For this one, I want you to position the exercise ball against a wall at your low back. Get your feet out in front of you a couple of feet and lean into the ball. For an intermediate to advanced move, perform a pistol squat by lifting one leg up. To perform a modified version, perform a staggered squat by placing the left foot in front of the right. Your right foot will be the working leg and should have about 80% of your weight on it. Perform 8-10 reps and then switch.
2️⃣Push-Ups: Place your feet on the sides toward the top and squeeze with your legs to engage your core and legs. It’ll burn.
3️⃣ Reverse Lunge with Rotation + Ball Squeeze: This one is deceivingly tough. Grab the ball and squeeze. Take your right foot back into a reverse lunge and at the bottom of the movement, rotate the ball to the right. Return to standing position and switch sides.
4️⃣ Deadbugs: Lie on your back with your knees and feet up. Place the ball between your hands and knees while pressing firmly. From here, lower opposite arm and leg to floor and then alternate sides.
5️⃣ Eccentric Ham Curls: Lie on your back with heels on the top of the ball and knees bent. Thrust your hips up, slowly extend your legs all the way out. For those intermediate to advanced, curl your legs right back in. To modify, place your back on the ground, bend the knees, hip thrust, and repeat.
6️⃣ Rotations: Lie on your back with the ball between your legs and arms out to your side. Squeeze legs firmly against ball to activate core. With your legs straight up, rotate your legs slow and controlled to the left and then right. To modify, do not go down as low as shown
2 runs from Tuesday and Wednesday. Both 4 miles(ish) and at a nice and easy pace. Temperature has dropped a bit first thing so got to take my sexy tights for a spin. Not sure if norwich is ready for them but there’s not many people around that time in the morning! Rest day today. 🌱🥦💪🏻🏃🏻♂️
Happy place—for runners, walkers, cyclists. The miles of East Coast Greenway that run through Umstead Park are a beautiful pause right in the heart of the metro Raleigh-Cary-Durham area. #Repost@gritgrindgrace ・・・
Had to stop a moment to catch this beauty.
With everyone cleaning out their closets of things that don’t bring them joy, I want to focus on other things in my life that don’t either.
Is it easier to run near my apartment or on flat stretches? Yes. Does it bring me joy? Yes, because I’m still running, but not like this local park does. It’s full of hills and rocks and crazy bikers. But it’s also full of beauty, memories, and it’s my happy place. I got back running here. I’ve spent countless hours with family and friends here. I’ve named all the hills after things from Lord of the Rings (Mirkwood, Mordor, Mt. Doom, Precious...). I got engaged here! I found my strength here.
So here’s to being more uncomfortable while running lots of hills, to taking more time to run here, and being filled with joy when I can be here. Especially when the sun is shining :)

#REDJanuary : Day 16 - Evening Run 🏃🏻♂️ ♥️ I finished today strong with a fairly easy-going run. With going back to work recently I had taken today off to allow myself and my body to recover so have not done a huge amount by my high standards. It’s important to rest when you need to, but I also know what is good for my mind... and what is good for my mind is to finish the day with a short run. I prefer to run either early in the morning or later in the evening because these are the times of day when I struggle the most mentally. Running is a form of therapy for me.. it allows me to unwind, let go, and burn off any negative energy. I always feel so much better after a run - even the shorter ones.
Today my mind completely drifted off and has inspired me to write something this evening. It’s amazing how your mind can drift off in to the strangest places. Running/Exercise can do that - it can inspire creativity and deeper thinking as well as being a good distraction from the stresses of day-to-day life! I am now going to start work on writing.. I have to be honest I’m a little bit apprehensive about this one but I’m going to do it anyway! 📝
