#throwback #tcsnycmarathon #running #corridaderua #pacefit

  • I’ve been in a funk the past few weeks. Since the #tcsnycmarathon I haven’t felt like myself. Something’s been off - a feeling I can’t easily explain, but one I know I don’t like. I’m typically happy, carefree, adventurous, and outgoing. Usually I’m a person I enjoy being around, but since the first weekend in November I haven’t been that person. I’ve been sad, rude, and easily agitated, with a side of pessimism. Which, is completely irrational because I love my life, so being frustrated with it only made me more annoyed 😠. . So, I changed my diet. I know, it sounds weird, but stick with me. I cut out some of the major allergens, like gluten, dairy, and peanuts to see if I feel better, and then I’ll slowly incorporate one thing back at a time, hopefully becoming aware of what’s negatively affecting me. I’m not at the ‘add things back in’ phase yet. But even with a pounding headache from giving up coffee, I feel like I’ve found myself again. I’m happy, I laugh, I smile, I’ve been talking to my friends again, and I’m not constantly overwhelmed. I’m back to being me😁! . Looking back, it probably started before November, but without the excuse of heavy mileage and a big competition on the horizon, I’m clearly able to see I haven’t been like myself. And I seriously didn’t like the person I was being. Sometimes looking back reminds me of what I’m trying to run towards. . . 📷: @rollrecovery . . #onwardsandupwards #fridayfeeling #foodproblems #itsarunnerthing

  • Me whenever anyone asks me if I’ve run since the #tcsnycmarathon 😂😂😂 HELL NO. Y’all! Take a break! I take 2 full weeks off of running. MAYBE MORE. There once was a time when I’d take a week and then guilt myself into running the second I wasn’t sore because I was terrified I’d gain weight. NOT ANYMORE. So what if you gain a few pounds during your break? It won’t kill you or make you any less strong or foxy. Take a break. Your brain and your body need time to recover. Then start slow. Going full throttle all the time isn’t healthy. Find a balance. Sleep in. Watch TV. Unplug. Foam roll. That’s what strength looks like. #SheCanAndSheDid #SportsBraSquad #TreatYoSelf 📸 @zhetrick

  • The runs better with another bun👯 . . During the final weeks of #tcsnycmarathon training my back, butt, and hamstring broke down. I began feeling radiating pain down my leg. Although I searched for a fix, I didn’t find a remedy to my discomfort and spent most of the race suffering. So, instead of flying to Thailand for a holiday, I flew to Arizona to work with my chiropractor. . . My body has a tendency to take the path of least-resistance, and just like in life, what’s easiest isn’t necessarily best. The least resistant path is usually a shortcut, that in turn, shortcuts your abilities. My chiropractor was convinced, to run faster, more efficient, and with fewer injuries, I needed to change my form. Specifically, I needed to use my hip and glute instead of over-stressing my hamstring and back. To truly test my capabilities and reach my limits I needed to re-teach myself how to run. . . I’m 31. I’ve been running for over 15 years. Can this old dog learn new tricks? At first when I was challenged to change I thought I couldn’t. He’d ask me to do a simple movement, and although it didn’t test my athleticism, it tested my will. My first response was “I can’t”. I was frustrated by constantly thinking of cues to keep me in position and the endless possibilities of what was going wrong - a weakness, landing too hard, a difference from side to side, etc. I just wanted to run. I wanted to be back in my happy place. Instead I was forced to be painfully present in the fact that I couldn’t do what I wanted to. . . Yesterday, as he pressed his fingers into my body, attempting to provide more mobility, my eyes welled up. As much as I’ve tried to endure the pain, I was crying. This process has been difficult emotionally as well as physically. But recently I’ve made significant progress! I can finally feel that I will be better from this. I’m now able to understand when I breakdown and can cue myself to maintain the proper mechanics. I don’t slap the ground as loud with my left foot. I lead with my hips instead of my head. And today I did a workout with the lovely @alexipappas where I maintained good body position and wasn’t in pain!

  • WORDS :: it took awhile to find them & there’s a good chance they might still not be the best ones I could’ve come up with, but my NYCM race recap + more is posted & full of ‘em. There are a whole lot of words across three posts but somehow still not quite enough for the important stuff. The gratitude I wanted to get across won’t ever be carried well enough by written words • Broken out into :: some backstory of why I run // my two favorite questions to answer that came out of this year’s marathon // & the actual race recap • If you read only one of the three, “Questions, Answered” is my fave & is the one linked in my bio (I can’t figure out how to link the entire ‘posts’ page here, but you can get to the other posts directly through my Strava athlete profile on the app or site) • Lots & lots of thanks 👋🏼 & ❤️• . . . . . #nycmarathon #tcsnycmarathon #roadtonyc #gratitude #runner #athlete #strongwomen #dwrt #dashingwhippets #teamnuun #streets101 #hshive #marathon #marathontraining

  • WHAT A YEAR! I look at these pictures and smile, 2 10ks (new PB of 49 mins), 6 half marathons (new PB of 1:49) and 3 world major marathons (new PB of 3:48)! 11 medals that I am hugely proud of, it looks like a picture book story and it is, but behind the pictures came a huge amount of hard work. A lot of sacrifices, missing meals with friends, taking my own food to things, not drinking for 4 months cause I was scared of the impact it would have on training. I put so so much into training for those three marathons that I kind of broke after they finished, forgetting how to be me outside of it all. I’m so glad I approached this year like I did, I’m very proud of where I have reached, but my goal next year isn’t just a race time. It is training hard for the three marathons I have signed up for but finding a balance, I will meet up with friends, I will have a few drinks (it doesn’t need to be shots like it used to be 😂), I will go out for dinners and I won’t be taking my own food. I’m going to do the thing I love but keeping a bit of me at the same time, life’s too short to do it any other way. And if that means I don’t get that sub 3:30 I’m ok with that, being happy means more to me 😊 #imoveme #instarunners #mind #headspace #runnersworld #womensrunning #womensrunningcommunity #womenrunning #wmm #marathoner #marathon #berlinmarathon #runningformind #runhappy #tcsnycmarathon #mychicagomarathon

Make no mistake, though, I had a job to do and (for a change) it wasn’t to go batsh*t 🦇and see how fast my legs could move.....instead I settled into a more comfortable pace where I was able to truly tell where my fitness level was at! Same goals remain though with a different direction. This was my last half in 2018......Can’t wait to see what lies ahead! #abbottworldmarathonmajors #mproficial #berlinmarathon #berlinmarathon2019 #tcsnycmarathon #chicagomarathon
