  • Rosson Crow's mural in the Belt titled 'Crazy from the Heat.'Rosson creates densely layered panoramas on a massive scale. Incorporating everything from shop aisles and neon signage to discarded beer cans and bumper stickers, her work is definitively LA and amends the concept of landscape as ‘trees-mountains-river’. In her short but intense career, a skillful depiction of space has engaged intricately stratified deserts, scenes from key places in American history, and California’s landmarks of iconic cult status. The artist herself is as timeless and multi-dimensional as her works, obsessed with Americana and historical misremembering and simultaneously on the pulse of contemporary art and culture. Stop by the Belt to see Rosson's mural! ⠀ ⠀ @rossoncrow #rossoncrow #thebelt #thebeltdetroit⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

  • @livingcorriere: ‘There has always been an inspired and hard-working creative community in Detroit, but with the city finally on a national and international radar, many artists are receiving the consideration and opportunities they never had before. “Those who stuck it out during the hardest times in Detroit still deserve more recognition than they have ever received,” says Anthony Curis, co-founder of Library Street Collective, one of Detroit’s most renowned contemporary art galleries. “The constantly changing social and economical landscape has been a driving force in creating unique voices, however, there is still progress to be made. At the same time, bring nationally recognized artists to the city and its artists as a whole.” From the Belt, the alley dedicated to the public art behind the gallery, the Curises alternative site-specific works by local and international artists.’⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Text by Olivia Fincato and photo by Matthew William. • Tiff Massey, “SAY IT LOUD” The Library Street Collective, closes January 12, 2018. You’ve likely seen her large, linked, metal sculpture, “Facet”, in The Belt. I went to the opening of this show back on October 27th. I really haven’t shared much this fall, but this show was amazing. Ok, I’m not exaggerating one bit when I tell you that the opening was so well-attended that you could hardly move. Entry was curtailed and could only take place when someone exited. Crazy, wonderful energy! Her art ranges from the large-scale to jewelry (as she’s wearing in the photo). Her work is so freaking cool. My photos don’t do it justice. She has gingham pieces (shown behind her) that are another post entirely. The story of that work is incredible. Gallery hours and professional images of her gallery installation are shown here: www.lscgallery.com/tiff-massey-say-it-loud-install-images • www.tiffmassey.com • @tiff_massey @librarystreetcollective#librarystreetcollective #tiffmassey #metalartist #femaleartists #detroitartists #detroitgallery #thebeltdetroit #saynicethingsaboutdetroit #thingstodoindetroit

  • Congrats to our neighbors @detroitblows! “It was important for us to create space where people felt welcome,” Nia Batts, a Detroit native, explains. “Because salons have been segregated spaces traditionally, we wanted to really counteract that narrative and build a community really that felt inclusive and that felt intersectional.”⠀ ⠀ “On top of creating something that wasn’t there, we’re investing in the footprint of the redevelopment and reinvigoration of the city,” Sophia Bush says, noting that the salon commits $1 from every service and 25 percent of retail sales to enterprises with female entrepreneurs.⠀ ⠀ #Repost⠀ ・・・⠀ This week Detroit Blows and these two badass women are featured on PEOPLE’s 25 Women Changing the World of 2018! • I think that all the silence Is worse than all the violence. #Fear is such a weak emotion that's why I despise it. We scared of almost everything, afraid to even tell the truth. So scared of what you think of me, I'm scared of even telling you. Sometimes I'm like the only person I feel safe to tell it to. I'm locked inside a cell in me, I know that there's a jail in you. Consider this your bailing out, so take a breath, inhale a few. My screams is finally getting free, my thoughts is finally yelling through. - 🎵🎶 @lupefiasco

  • Hey there! Boy what a week it's been, I can't tell you how much I wish I could have posted more. Whats ironic is before I inadvertently went dark, I was complaining about how arduous it is to post all the time and how I'm not sure if I've made the right decision by plummeting into social media for the sake of starting my businesses. But this morning I found myself missing it! Some of this tension stems back to the fact that social media and I have a rocky relationship history, and of course one of my most common tendencies when dealing with internal tension is avoidance. 😳 I gave up FB and IG for a bit a few years ago – I couldn't take the pressure of it all. And oh baby did I feel pressure after telling the universe I was going to start a blog!! But that’s a topic for another time. What I learned about myself this week is that, even though I still struggle with the pressure of it all, not all of it gets to me in the same way. Hello growth! However, I do want to set expectations for all of you beautiful souls who've chosen to follow me on this journey 💙💙💙 I'm planning on posting at least twice a week: (1) I'll drop a longer "blog post" on life / love / relationships / etc. on Sundays – which I'm lovingly calling "Sundays with Stephanie" 💁‍♀️ – and (2) I'll post mid-week on my personal story. You can also catch me in my stories everyday posting inspirational quotes and other things I love, as well as updates on my currently plant-base diet challenge!! Thank you all so much for being here with me, I'm so excited for the things to come and SO grateful I'm able to share it all with you ✨💕💃

  • I can’t believe I’m writing this, but... Detroit....I’m in ❤️with you. Going somewhere for the first time always excites me, but Detroit was never on my “cant wait to go” list, but I’m so glad I did. Art everywhere, local shops, incredible architecture (TOO many awesome renovated lofts 😍). I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I loved the vibe. The rain may have ruined my hair but couldn’t dampen my spirit. . Seeing the city by bike and (especially) scooter was just too fun! (even though I did take a tumble) 🚲 🛴 . This little getaway came at the perfect time, I’m coming back home with tired legs, a big smile, and only a few questions.
